About me

Hello reader. I’m Yoni, a Dutch bluntly bookish blogger living in Liverpool, UK. I love cooking and baking, am obsessed with dogs and serial killers (it’s a professional obsession I promise) and when I am not reading I can be found crocheting in a comfortable chair. In short - I’m a twenty-something-year-old grandmother.

Straightforwardness is so intrinsic in Dutch society that there’s even a Dutch word for it: 'bespreekbaarheid' (speakability) – everything can and should be discussed..”

I have honestly been a bookworm for as long as I can remember. Growing up I spent countless hours discovering far-away lands, practicing spells, overthrowing oppressive dystopian governments and killing monsters. Every birthday, Sinterklaas (a Dutch equivalent of Christmas) and other festive occasion I would beg my family to buy me more books. In truth not much has changed since then.

When I moved to the UK in 2019, all of my earthly belongings were packed in a grand total of 12 moving boxes. 5 of those were filled solely with books. Much to my partner’s surprise it did not stop there and to this day, at least 1 new book manages to sneak into the house each month.

On Bluntly Bookish you’ll find my opinion on the many books that have kept me occupied over the years and the new ones I am yet to devour. All in the true Dutch style - blunt, straightforward and to the point.

Feel free to share your thoughts with me as well and until then - just one more page.
